While Veuve Clicquot's limited Ponsardine makes for a luxe-take on the concept of "champagne in a can," its a more clever nod than you'd think. The father of François Clicquot's widow, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, appreciated the link between his name and the snappy seafood specialty so much that he added a sardine leaping a bridge (“pont” in French) to his family coat-of-arms. A story that gives perfect (and humorous) sense to the homage behind the label's latest special edition -- their famous Brut Yellow Label packed in a sardine tin.
