Tech-masters Sony are working on an alarm clock alternative, both softer and smarter. Rigged to monitor sleep-patterns, the proposed pillow technology actually records your sleep-state movements and knows when you're awake or deep in REM.
The benefit? Instead of being jarred from your deepest point of rest, the polite pillow opts for easing you into an awake-state after you've left REM. The result is a less groggy awakening, and all of the advantages that come with starting your day feeling rested and refreshed.
One thing we know -- fluffy down sure beats the shrill tone of a traditional alarm. And jet-setters in particular will not want to leave this one behind when they hit the road.
